Pride Drowns, on a Hot Summer’s Day – Part 2
As the long- awaited vacation journey continued after having car issues which required returning to the previous town for repairs, we are again on our way. Oh Lord, please help us to make it to our destination I breathed deep down inside.
We had made this trip before, but this time the hours seemed to creep, and fatigue began to insidiously cloak my mind. I had been able to cope with the growing physical fatigue, but I knew I needed to rest soon.
Just before our eyes was the anticipated road sign, only 20 miles to our destination! Oh, what relief! As I watched the odometer, I was thankful for every change. And finally, there was the house! Hellos filled the air and hugs followed as all joined in to unpack the car. Of course, the excitement of the trip had to be shared and family members referred to me using words like courageous for having finished the trip. I felt pretty proud!—again.
As all enjoyed cool drinks someone suggested…Let’s go for a swim! All agreed and soon we were at pool- side in the back yard. The water was so refreshing, and all swam toward the deep end of the pool, then it happened. I knew that I could not make it to the pool’s edge. The earlier fatigue seemed to crowd out all energy and I felt immobilized as I began to sink. Oh God, I can’t call for help, after all I am courageous! Pride was battling humility, but I knew I must decide and right away!
I cried out to my brother, “Help, I can’t make it”. At first, he looked at me, and then he moved to help me to the shallow water and out so I could rest. He saved my life! We read in Proverbs 16:18 that pride goeth before destruction. I learned a lesson that day that I shall never forget and wanted to share with you. My pride drowned that day, but I still need God’s help to keep it underwater!!
I encourage each of you to allow our Heavenly Father to give you the humility that will raise you up! James 4:10 He will exalt you. As we live in these tumultuous days, His strength is all we can count on. Make it yours! He wants to save you for the Kingdom. Allow it!
And remember that where sin abounds, grace does much more abound! We are still making some changes and will let you know as soon as all is in place. In the meantime, please keep us in prayer as we pray for you and as you are impressed, feel free to donate to this faith-based ministry. Below is the web address. Blessings!
