How much can you carry? What would limit your desire? An old back injury, extra weight, or added years? I loved that old pump on the farm where I grew up! Each time it was my turn to get water for the animals I would rush to the old pump. Then as the bucket filled with water more strength was required chasing away my initial excitement. Carrying that almost full bucket to my destination never found me ready for the load. Counting the steps was a needed distraction, then finally arriving! What a relief! I could carry it no further!
Headed to the gym, to lift? How much today? Moving is one of my favorite activities and the weights always drew me to try. Goals were clear and pacing myself was a must. As I increased my weight the anticipation grew. And no matter how much weight was added when I let go the relief was undefinable! I see this in those who lift weights in contests. As the weight increases, in the end, they are ready to drop it!
Months seemed to drag on and finally that “due date” drew near! Yes, a baby was in route, but when? Hours became days and then weeks. The load grew heavier, and no one could carry it but me. Sleep was a challenge, and finding a comfortable position was becoming increasingly difficult. How long, how long, was the whispered question deep down in my heart. At last, the day arrived, and she came! Multifaceted beauty and unspeakable relief!
Centuries ago, our Savior was headed not to relief but to more weight! It was in the garden of Gethsemane. There our Lord had to decide. One of my favorite authors states, “He sees the transgressors of the law if left to themselves ,must perish. He sees the helplessness of man . He sees the power of sin… and decides He will save man at any cost to Himself. Sweating blood, He drank the bitter cup of humiliation and agony.” Taking upon Himself the weight of the world! Much more than we could ever carry! Eph. 3:20
Hence, we have the incredible opportunity to experience forgiveness of every sin, salvation, and eternal life!! Won’t you surrender all to Him who gave all for YOU and continues to carry the weight even to today!!! Luke 1:37
The weight of guilt, distrust, anger, discouragement and more can steal all joy, happiness, and desire to live. He waits to give you His peace, take your guilt, prove His trustworthiness, and help you work through your anger. He is a practical Savior! Is. 41:10
