It was that time of year! As a child I can still see those monster-like tractors pulling onto our property to harvest the grain. My dad rented parts of our land to nearby farmers and received a percentage of the profit.

I did not understand the demanding work that farming required.  My brother and I enjoyed the smell of fresh hay and watching the large bales of hay being lifted into our barn. We knew that soon, with Dad’s permission, those bales would become special places for rolling and jumping!

The years passed and growing up gave us opportunities to dig holes for fence posts, actually drive tractors and break ground for planting seeds. What a difference, being in the heart of the work!

As the seeds were planted, a harvest was expected. Down pours and droughts were enemies at the gate! How could we protect our precious seeds from these foes and reap a harvest?

One of my favorite authors shares; “these precious seeds can be likened to the Word of God, working to make its way into our hearts. Every seed has in itself a germinating principle; so, in it the life of the plant is enfolded! Likewise, there is life in God’s word!” John 6:63

Listen to this! As you read, study, and apply the Word, it change your life. Would you like to have a character after the similitude of the character of God? John 5:24  In every command and in every promise of the Word of God there is power, the very life of God, by which the command may be fulfilled, and the promise recognized!

Character-change on the way! Despite the downpours of fear, the droughts of discouragement by faith, which is the substance of things hoped for, the incorruptible seed of the Word of God will do its work, its perfect work and a harvest will be reaped! How timely, when tomorrow is not promised!

And that reaping can in part be described as His peace that passes all understanding, an ongoing desire to talk with Him first in the mornings and through- out the day, a love for others that you cannot understand, and a strength to stand for truth even though you may have to stand alone!

This is just the beginning! It can be done, for nothing is too hard for our Lord! Jeremiah 32:27
