We will call him Pete. For a series of crimes, he had been imprisoned for more than 30 years. Once released, immediately many think, oh he is now free! Maybe so, perhaps not. Some actually return to prison after release.
From statistics the reasons vary from a different offence to being vulnerable to the system which seems to lack community support including jobs and housing as well as breaking drug addictions. Still living without freedom! Still behind bars!
Many programs have been developed to provide services for those in need. And it has been found that once they are able to live more normal lives reincarceration rates diminish. What about those who have never been incarcerated, yet live imprisoned lives!
High walls and barbed wire fences come in different forms and shapes. Disappointment, discouragement, sadness, depression and more describe many of these enclosures. No freedom here!
As our nation plans to celebrate “freedom” solutions are still the cries of many hearts. Therapy and medication can certainly be an important part of the treatment plan, however what about the heart! Could it be that Freedom is an inside job?
What does the Word say about freedom? John 8:32 comes to mind and the solution for finding real freedom. That solution is truth which is our Lord and the only one who can really make you free! Free deep down within your heart (a new heart-Ezek. 26:36) no matter the circumstances that surround your life. No matter how high the walls!
This truth is saturated with love, obedience, and faith. Life will no longer be an ordinary experience! Your days will be extra-ordinary! Fasten that seat belt! Soon you will be lifted to a realm where freedom reigns! Here you will be free to love as He loves, forgive as He forgives, serve as He served, to obey His commandments, to grieve, to release fear in exchange for faith, the faith of Jesus!
