The whole idea of New Year’s resolutions has a mixed cultural history. In many countries around the world the categories of focus from a 2013 survey of internet users were Health, love, career, finance, and education. It is striking that at the heart of resolution is change and at the heart of conversion is also change!
According to many studies over the years, 41% of Americans who make new year’s resolutions only 9 % are successful by the year’s end. The rest have given up by January19th and interestingly many of the resolutions are “repeats” from previous years!
Whether you are in either camp or do not make new year’s resolutions, change is a part of every life. Inescapable! Physical, mental, spiritual changes in everyday life are not placed on hold! And choosing the direction on Life’s highway is up to us!
What is God’s plan for our lives? From the Garden of Eden, man was given a choice. Who would He serve, the Creator or the destroyer? Hence, from the beginning change was inevitable! When God bids us follow Him every day is new, Lam. 3: 21,22. and dynamic! And growth is on the edge of every choice!
So, what will you do with 2023! Come to the fountain that never runs dry! Allow Him to give you the strength to stand for Him alone! Make the Bible your first book. These choices have no regrets!
Ask God what changes you need to make remembering that He is power and love. In His presence make a list.
1. Start with only one or two changes-keep short and doable. He knows who you are.- Ps. 139:16
2. On your knees (literally or in your heart) seriously submit the“change/s” to God- James 4:7
3. Write out the change/s and place in: Bible, diary, phone/app. Book or on mirrors-Jer. 30:2
4. Share with a close and trusted friend. “Iron sharpens iron” Prov. 27:17- (accountability)
