GLIMPSES OF MY FATHER’S LOVE *Up at sunrise! I was hardly able to sleep for my dad had asked me to “help him” did holes for fence posts! We met on the back porch, one of my favorite spots on our farm, where we talked, and dad gave me instructions. Then off to the old barn and out to the field! I remember walking happily and proudly behind my tall dad (to me) who was always teaching and encouraging us children to always be learning! Prov. 1:8 *We could not wait! The time had come for another exciting family game of croquette! All were there except my dad who was at work. The next hour was filled with laughter and disappointments as one by one, my mother, my sister, my brother, and I drew near the last wicket! I was sure to win! Suddenly my brother appeared close by, and quickly won the game! I felt overwhelmed and my pride took a real beating! Out of this turmoil and not thinking, I threw my mallet as high as I could and then I heard it! Unbelieving the sound of shattering glass, I looked up and there saw that my brother’s bedroom window was the unplanned target! Eph. 4:26 What was ahead was not pleasant. First my mother spoke to me, and my heat fell. But I knew that facing my dad would be the real challenge. When I heard my dad’s car enter the driveway that evening, I knew that the time had come. Later as He sat down with me, his words pierced my mind and heart. I was never to be the same again and had a renewed respect for my wonderful dad! *The day was approaching when I was to leave home and begin my nursing education. Even though young my special parents had worked hard to prepare me for the future. Dad sat down with me on the back step and lovingly he recounted the principles I had been taught through my 17 years. He then made the following statement, “no matter what happens, you can always come home”! Luke 15:11-32 *Three months before his death, even though weak, I had brought my dad to my home which is where he raised me! While there he noticed that the field needed mowing and said the following: “if you had let me know, I will have cut those weeds!” He was totally unaware of his extensive limitations because he was busy being “my father”! Yes, I have been blessed! And my father always pointed me to God as the one who can do all things and will never leave me nor forsake me. (Heb. 13:5) However, if you have not had a father to whom you could relate it, God is prepared and ready to provide for you, protect you, be present with you, and to love you with an everlasting love! Jer. 31:3 Thank you for this opportunity to share with you and know that I am praying for you, whatever your situation with your father. We at Grace Abounds are there for you!
