Thanksgiving, a time of Rescue!
Sleet, blinding snow and hurricane-force winds characterize the “perfect storm” that swept over the New England coast Thanksgiving week, 1898. This perfect storm ( when two storm systems collide) lasted more than 30 hours and buried New England in 2 feet of snow.
During this gale many ships and their crews were caught offshore and in desperate need. At daybreak two wrecked ships were identified and trained surfmen went to work for a Thanksgiving rescue. They had to drag their surf boat into the raging water, where they were forced to push and again drag the vessel in knee-deep freezing water along the shoreline for more than a mile.
Determined to save anyone, they had to repeat this action for hours as the gale intensified. Finally, not far ahead were two schooners that had wrecked in the storm. With relentless courage they were able to rescue men who were freezing as they hung on to the sails.
Where are you this Thanksgiving week? Amid a storm, just hanging on to the sails? Are you alone and hurting or living in pain? Is it a time filled with sad memories as we approach the holidays? Maybe the loss of a friend or loved one? Perhaps you are a very tired caregiver or trapped in a painful relationship. So many storms with strong winds and freezing water!
I invite you to call on the God who can still the winds and waves in your life (Mark 4:39-41) Daniel can testify of his power to save. Mary Magdalene can tell of his patience and Peter can share of His willingness to forgive. He will gladly wade through the cold water just to get to you! Won’t you give Him a chance to rescue you this week?
We at Grace Abounds Ministries would love to hear about your rescue. We have you on our minds. Have you seen the additions to the website? We invite you to visit and pray you will be blessed.
Next month a holiday mini virtual concert will be available on the website! The address is below. We are very excited about this offering. Don’t miss it!
Since we are faith-based donations are appreciated. These love offerings keep the website current, pay studio expenses (concerts) and make promotion efforts possible.
Until next time, remember that where sin abounds, grace does much more abound-Rom 5:20!
