The Storm Before the Quiet This single mother woke up to a storm of significant proportions that would only grow in intensity. She was suddenly confronted by a serious septic tank challenge. “No work today”, she thought as she whispered a prayer and called her supervisor. And then another prayer as she randomly chose a company to call for help. While awaiting their arrival she took care of her daughter and continued in prayer” Lord please stretch my bank account and sell the car sitting in our yard”. She had, had many problems with the vehicle and was finally forced to purchase another used one. Unknown to her, the storm was about to escalate, as she prepared to do a load of laundry. The washing machine did not respond, so another call for help had to be made. The winds were blowing, and the rains were torrential! Oh Lord what next?? She had only to wait a short time as she attempted to mow her lawn only to find that the mower also no longer worked! What does this mother have in common with the Widow in 2 Kings chapter 4 or perhaps with you? Are there storms in your life? When asked by Elisha about food in her home she said,” not anything in the house, save a pot of oil”. Do you need to have your bank account stretched? Is there money for doctor bills and car insurance? Do you need more oil? Please don’t be afraid to ask for help. With God’s direction through Elisha, this widows’ sons went to her neighbors and asked not for oil, but for vessels. God provided the oil and plenty of it!!! He then provided quiet, and she was able to pay her bills! He will do the same in your life. Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek Him first (His will), and all that we need will be added! Remember it is our needs not our wants. The single mother mentioned above who was experiencing storms in her home also received the” oil” she needed. By the end of the day the storm had passed and there was quiet. Not only had the septic system been repaired and paid for, but the washing machine and the lawnmower repaired as well. Later someone stopped by to look at the vehicle. He insisted that it was just what he was looking for! As she explained the problems she had with it, he was unrelenting, this is the car he wanted, and he paid cash!! How do I know? I am that single mother! God is indeed able to do abundantly above! Don’t stop trusting, no matter the storms in your life, He is big enough and His promises are true! It is such a blessing to be able to share this note with you bimonthly.
